A partial denture consists of three basic elements:

• A framework or base fits against the gums and other areas in the mouth. An attachment such as a clasp holds the framework in place and prosthetic teeth are connected to the framework.
• The framework of a partial denture is supported by the teeth, gums and jawbones where the framework rests. The framework is held in place by the clasps on the remaining teeth.
• The framework is usually made of a strong, non-corrosive, metal alloy. The teeth are made of plastic or porcelain and are attached to a pink denture plastic called acrylic to resemble the gum tissue.

• Rinse your dentures after eating to clean them from food particles using a soft denture brush and mild liquid soap or denture toothpaste.
• Brush your denture over a folded towel or a sink full of water. That way, it won't be damaged if you drop it.
• Soak your denture in denture cleaner to help prevent staining and odor.
• If you have partial dentures, brush and floss at least twice a day.
